Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes and defeated I.N.D.I.A bloc's candidate Sudershan Reddy who got 300 votes in the election. The election was necessitated after ex-Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned citing health reasons.

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar congratulated CP Radhakrishnan on being elected as the next Vice President. "Your elevation to the office reflects the trust and confidence of the representatives of our nation," Dhankhar said. He had resigned in July and in his letter to President, stated that the reason was "to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice."

Rajasthan Assembly passed the 'Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill' on Tuesday amid protests by the Opposition. Reacting to I.N.D.I.A bloc's nominee Sudershan Reddy losing Vice Presidential election after securing 300 votes, BJP leader Amit Malviya said 15 I.N.D.I.A bloc MPs cross-voted in the election. NDA nominee CP Radhakrishnan won the election by securing 452 votes. Notably, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh had claimed that Opposition's 315 MPs turned up for election.
